Food truck festival coming to Brockton next weekend

A food truck and craft beer festival is being held at the Westgate Mall in Brockton next Saturday, Oct. 6.

BROCKTON – It’s like a mobile gastropub.

Westgate Mall is hosting its first “Brews & Bites” food truck festival on Oct. 6, from noon to 5 p.m. The event is expected to feature seven food trucks and at least one locally owned craft beer vendor, along with live music, with no entry fee, according to organizers.

“The event will feature many local food trucks, craft, breweries and hard cider,” said Westgate Mall Marketing Director Rebekah Macchia. “The afternoon will have a fun, family-friendly atmosphere, filled with delicious food, tasty beverages and live music.”

The event was approved last week by the License Commission, with a blessing from the Board of Health, whose director has long been against food trucks operating in the city. This year, a food truck also appeared at the Farmers Market in downtown Brockton.

Food trucks listed for the “Brews & Bites” event include Away Cafe, Fasano Catering, Mangia Food Truck, Mom On The Go, The Sausage Guy, and the South Shore Taco Guy, along with a Ben & Jerry’s truck.

As far as craft beer, the Easton-based Shovel Town Brewery is expected to be on hand selling brewskis. And the Everett-based Artifact Cider Project will be doling out alcoholic beverages as well.

The Franklin Underground, a local band, will be performing its unique brand of music at the intersections of rock, funk, blues and indie music.
